66th Shankaracharya's Aradhana

HH Pudhu Periyava doing Pooja on Feb 22, 2014 at Kalavai as seen below, thanks a ton to Shri Vanjari Shankar:

The Aradhana of the 66th Acharya of Shri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham His Holiness Pujyasri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati VI Shankaracharya Swamiji is on the Magha Krishna Ashtami day.

The Acharya was born in Udayambakkam Village in Chengelpet District in Tamilnadu. He established the Advaita Sabha for the preservation and encouragement of the studies of Advaita Vedanta Shastra.

He was the son of Shri Sitarama Sastri. This Acharya's poorvasrama name was Swaminatha. He was a native of Udayambakkam. He attained mukti at Kalavai in the year 1907 on Krishna Ashtami in the month of Magha of the cyclic year Parabhava (1907 AD).

Mahaswamigal had darshan of this Acharya in 1906 when the Latter was in His Chaturmasya Vratham. It seems that at that time itself the 66th Acharya did a Sankalpam in His mind that Mahaperiyava would be the future Peetadhipathi of Kanchi Matam!

  2. What a sight of majesty are these Brindavanam-s. The strength of penance and brahmajnana attained by the Acharyas radiating from within these Brindavanams are seen explicitly. I have heard that extreme sanctity is to be maintained in the premises of the Brindavanam. If there is any let-down in such observations, the effects can be explicitly seen. When in Kalavai, Mahaperiyava would closet Himself within the immediate presence of the Brindavanam and nobody would be allowed. He would perform danda vandanam and sashtanga namaskarams several times to the Brindavanams of His Guru and Paramaguru.

Just for clarity's sake, in the pictures above, Periyava is seen performing danda vandanam to both Brindavanams. The one whose top He is touching and prostrating to is that of the 66th Acharya and the one where He is performing vandanam by touching the middle portion (just below the Navaneetha Krishna) is that of the 67th Acharya.

    1. Hi Ananthakrishnan, both the Adhistanams of the 66th and the 67th Shankaracharyas are located in Kalavai only, side by side. Thanks for the kind words.
